About our Cafe Francais

SAB (Sir Adam Beck School) parents come meet other parents to learn and practice French, at Fair Grounds Roastery & Cafe located on 3785 Lake Shore Blvd. W (at 40th St & Browns Line, 416 251-2233, www.fairgroundscoffee.ca) on the first Tuesday of every month from 730pm to 900pm.

If you are like me, you may not have spoken French in a very long time or not at all. Don't let your rusty French prevent you from coming out to Café Français. Or maybe you just like to have brush up on your conversational French. All levels are welcomed and encouraged. We discuss a wide range of topics: sports, politics, and local issues.

On this blog, I will share information that might be useful to parents of French Immersion students attending Ecole Sir Adam Beck School. Your feedback is welcome.

Open to all, come and join us.
See you there/Bienvenue

Notes from the 5th meeting (1 June 2010)

Hello everyone,

We had a meeting on Tuesday June 1, 2010. My intention was to have the theme of games and outdoor activities since next week on Friday June 18th will be the annual Sir Adam Beck Playday/BBQ. We discussed the history of the olympic games using a book from the library as reference. Later, we discussed the various languages that we all spoke. Christina introduced us to a great book that you all might want for your collection, "The Firefly French/English Visual Dictionary" by Jean-Claude Corbell and Ariane Archambault. The dictionary contains categories of words from sports, science and anatomy. It's great for expanding your vocabulary beyond French 101.

Many people have expressed interest in continuing Cafe Francais through the summer months.
I'll show up for the meetings as long as some of you show up. The selected dates are as follows: Tuesday July 6th and Tuesday August 3rd. The meetings will take place at 7:30pm to 9pm at Fairgrounds Roastery. I'll try to keep up with the notes and posts through the summer.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it a great start to Cafe Francais. I hope that you are finding it as helpful as I am.
